SCHOLARSHIPS TO JAPAN
Mizuta student scholarship
Under the terms of the bilateral agreement between ELTE and Josai University (Japan) the Mizuta student scholarship, coordinated by the Rector’s Office, is announced by the vice rector of the university.
With a few exceptions, the language of education at all majors Josai International University is Japanese, although some subjects are taught in English. Students with excellent command of Japanese, engaged in the topic of Japanese-Hungarian relationships and local language and culture, motivated to deepen their professional knowledge in a specific field, are welcome.
Waseda University student scholarship
Under the terms of the agreement between ELTE and Waseda University (Japan) one BA student can participate at the Intensive Japanese Language Program of Waseda University each year. The scholarship, coordinated by the Rector’s Office, is announced by the vice rector of the university for students with an interest in Japanese language and culture, motivated to perfect their language skills. A certain degree of proficiency in Japanese is a pre-requisite. The application process involves several rounds of selection. Waseda University and the Japanese state offer a scholarship in addition to exemption from tuition fees to the successful applicant (Monbukagakushō or MEXT government scholarship). Heiwa-Nakajima scholarship (Osaka University, MAPLE Program)
Osaka University can accept one student each year thanks to the Heiwa Nakajima Foundation. The MAPLE Program is a project of the Center for Japanese Language and Culture. The opportunity is provided for students with an interest in Japanese language and culture, motivated to perfect their Japanese language skills. A certain degree of proficiency in Japanese is a pre-requisite.

Language and culture scholarship of the government of Japan – MEXT (Monbukagakusho) scholarship (university level, part-time program)
Students aged between 18 and 30 taking a Japanese major, who will be enrolled at university at the time of their return to the home country, can apply for the scholarship. The purpose of the program is to provide a part-time university program within a one-year period. Proficiency in Japanese language is a pre-requisite.
The application deadline is generally in February. The process includes a written exam which, if passed, is followed by an oral interview. Documents and further information can be found on the homepage of the Embassy of Japan.
Research scholarship of the government of Japan (postgraduate level)
Scholarships are available for young scholars under the age of 35 with a university or college diploma. 80% of those receiving government scholarships in Japan are postgraduate students or scholars from abroad. Those supported by the scholarship receive a preparatory language course, after which they join the professional postgraduate training offered by the university.
The program normally lasts for a maximum of 2 years, but if the applicant intends to complete a higher level degree, this period can be extended accordingly.
